Crandall Engineering Ltd. Receives Business Excellence Award

Crandall Engineering Ltd. is the proud recipient of the coveted 2011 Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award in the category Business Excellence.

The annual award, created by the Chamber in 1985 to encourage entrepreneurship in the area, is given to the business that best demonstrates overall excellence in all areas of business such as production, marketing, sales, quality control, client service, human resources and financial management. In addition, this award recognizes a company that excels in community involvement and is a role model for entrepreneurship in the business community. Before a crowd of over 350 people, the Company President, Mike Cormier, P. Eng. dedicated the award to its employees and its clients. “We are proud of our dedicated staff that understands that the key to our success is client satisfaction, and project after project, they get that. We are also privileged to have our clients’ trust, year after year, job after job. Some clients have been with us for over 50 years, and that’s something we are very proud of”, Cormier said.

It all began in 1952 when Crandall Engineering first opened their doors, and with the company celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012, it has continuously provided services to municipal, government, architects, and private clients in NB, Atlantic Canada and beyond.  It offers engineering and technical services for municipal, commercial and industrial infrastructure, and with its recent acquisition of Hoadley Engineering Inc. in 2010, Crandall also offers a wide range of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression design as well as electrical engineering services.

Crandall Engineering has come a long way since its inception in Moncton, NB in 1952 as a one person firm. The company now has over 50 employees in offices in Moncton and Saint John, and is proud to be locally owned. The key to its success, according the Mr. Cormier is its continued focus on clients. “We have a strong company culture based on client satisfaction and repeat business, and everyone in the company learns that from day one. Its what drives us in all aspects of our work”. The firm has always believed that by including the client in the design process, the quality of the outputs is that much greater.

Another remarkable fact about Crandall is the longevity of many of their employees.  With very low staff turnover, several members of the staff have been with the firm for over 30 years and counting.  This is possible because the firm has always made it a priority to treat staff with respect and offer an exciting, team oriented and continuous learning work environment. Their thought is simple: Satisfied employees = satisfied customers.

The presentation of the Business Excellence Award is an affirmation that Crandall Engineering Ltd. remains a true contender in the ever changing consulting engineering business, even after 60 years.

This project focused on providing sanitary sewer service to areas where improper on-site wastewater treatment was used with risk of contamination of the shallow dug wells in the area. The project cost was approximately $7.0 million and included over 11 km of sewer main installed in depths of up to 8 m, a new lift station and a new wastewater treatment facility constructed using special methods due to compressible soils and sensitive wetlands nearby. This project also included transforming the abandoned sewage lagoon to a nature reserve used to educate the public on wetlands and attracting various bird species.
